When my personal finance class becomes newsworthy!

My personal finance class made the news!!!

Did you know that only 27% of California´s K-12 population has access to a personal finance class? Nationwide this average is about 73%.

This could all change with California Assembly Bill 984 which would require all high school students to pass a semester of Personal Finance before graduation. This bill is being worked on and reviewed later this month! Fingers crossed that lawmakers can make this bill a reality.

On March 30,2023, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond visited Berkeley High School to discuss financial literacy with my students and the hear about the work I have been doing with my year long Personal Finance elective. He held a press conference where he got to hear feedback about the bill from my Personal Finance and AP Macroeconomics students. News crews from ABC7 and Fox2 were at the press conference and in my 3rd period Personal Finance class to observe the magic and power of teaching personal finance to high school seniors. Below is the story that ran on ABC7! If you are interested in seeing what we cover in this class, please click this link

This was a magical day; a day dreams are made of. I am so grateful for this experience and to be part of this work.
